Description: Blood Test for Herpes Simplex/Genital Herpes
Genital herpes is a chronic, lifelong infection that is most often caused by the herpes simplex virus-type 2 (HSV- 2), although HSV-1, which is normally responsible for oral herpes, may also lead to a genital herpes outbreak. In fact, up to half of all first episodes of genital herpes may be caused by the herpes simplex virus-1.
Common symptoms include genital itching, burning or soreness, small sores, or clusters of small, painful blisters; fever, headache, muscle pain, swollen lymph nodes in the groin area, painful urination, or genital discharge are also possible. Outbreaks may be sporadic throughout a carrier's lifetime and the virus is highly contagious when active.
However, not all carriers display overt genital herpes symptoms but they can still spread the virus to others through unprotected sexual contact. That's why it is important to get tested soon after you suspect you may have been exposed to the herpes virus.
The LabDraw blood test accurately detects general herpes antibodies from 3-6 weeks from exposure. We have on-staff physicians who can answer your questions and prescribe herpes medication to control herpes outbreaks.
