Result: Positive/Negative ( Desired Result: Negative)

Blood Test for Hepatitis C

Similar to hepatitis B, hepatitis C affects the liver and is acquired through contaminated blood, usually through shared 'dirty' needles during illegal drug use. Most people infected with the hepatitis C virus (HCV) have no or mild symptoms and might not know they have hepatitis C until liver damage (cirrhosis) shows up years later, often during a routine medical exam. Mild flu-like symptoms may appear along with abdominal pain or tenderness.

Hepatitis C is the most common bloodborne infection and is detected through a blood sample. It is difficult for the body to rid itself of this virus and the majority of cases (85%) become chronic. Hepatitis C is treated with antiviral medications.

Our labs use the Hepatitis C Antibody test; if antibodies are detected, another test, the HCV RIBA, is administered to confirm the results and eliminate the likelihood of false positives. This test can accurately detect the infection 3-6 weeks after exposure. LabDraw's certified STD counselors are available to help interpret the STD test results and answer all of your questions throughout the STD testing process.
