Blood Test for Syphilis

Syphilis is a curable, bacterial STD, usually discovered after the eruption of an open sore called a chancre; the infection is spread through these sores. It may also be transmitted by using a needle previously used by an infected person. As with gonorrhea, it is cured quickly with antibiotics. However, if left untreated, syphilis progresses through four stages of infection which become increasingly dangerous to the nervous system and vital organs. Untreated syphilis eventually leads to permanent impairment or death.

The LabDraw syphilis test is a simple blood test called a Rapid Plasma Reagin test, performed at one of our laboratory testing locations. This blood test can accurately detect the syphilis infection between 3-6 weeks from initial exposure. If you receive a positive result, we perform a confirmation test to identify whether the result is from a current or past infection. Our in-house physicians and other staff can counsel you on medications and disease prevention.
