Write a letter demanding an itemized statement of services. Make sure to tell them you want proof of every resource used in your hospital visit. They will then send you a report stating that so and so reviewed the records and found the charges justified. But they will not send the itemized statement. Just send em another letter demanding the statement and refuse to pay until they do. They still won't send it, but they will reduce the bill dramatically. My bill of $1,038 turned into a bill of $189, and a payment plan of $20/month to pay it. I thought about just paying it, but seeing the gross difference between what they hoped I would just pay and what was actually a fair bill angered me enough to say " now you can wait nearly a year to be paid off" and I'm paying monthly.
