Blood tests for HIV in a lab or at home
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) attacks the person's immune system and weakens his ability to fight infections and cancer. HIV transmission can occur through unprotected sex or needle sharing. The virus can progress to AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome), a potentially life-threatening disease for which there is no cure at this time, although many patients manage the disease over the long term with a combination of antiviral drugs. HIV symptoms vary widely and a person may have symptoms without recongizing it until he/she undergoes an HIV test.
LabDraw offers two HIV test options, either at a local lab or with an at-home test kit. Testing for HIV at a local facility takes15-20 minutes and allows you to test as soon as today. Testing at home for HIV involves collecting a blood sample from a simple finger prick and mailing it directly to the lab. Both options are completely private will accurately detect viral antibodies in the blood within 3-6 months after exposure.
